Beautiful Disaster, 319 pages.

Last month I purchased this book, it’s just because the title looks appealing. Something beautiful but bring disaster. What was that ?!. And do you know ?, this book is very readable, addictive, and captivating. Completely page-turner !

When I read the synopsis, I thought it just like usual love story, about a bad boy that falling in love with innocent girl, decorated by little bit contravention and intrigue, then they would happily ever after. But, this book offered you roller-coaster conflicts. Even I felt exasperated with the characters but in the end I’d turn back to love them. Because Abby and Travis were just too cute to be true. Here’s the synopsis :

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

You’d find that Abby Abernathy, wasn’t so innocent. She had a dark past (bad reputation, actually) that forced her to run far away from her hometown. Her character was so complicated. Sometimes she was so tame, docile but the other side abruptly become wild. In my imagination, Abby must be drop dead gorgeous. She was beautiful but didn’t realize it. She just not accustomed when people (most of them were boys) start paying attention to her. Initially, she couldn’t see that Travis was falling in love with her. There were so many times I wanted to scream to Abby, especially when she acted “play hard to get” but in fact she was falling in love and yearned about Travis’s affection.

Let’s talk about my favorite character, Travis Maddox. He wasn’t so bad guy even though he was a heart-breaker, swear, and did rude things. He was smart, muscular, strong, handsome (of course!), and loyal and devoted to his friends and family. I really like his character, he is just love-able. The way he protected Abby and his brothers made him looks reliable. I also could feel the pain when he tried to be ordinary friend, pretended not love or care with Abby. My heart is breaking. He tried to change every bad things that he had ever done, just because he wanted to start new chapter of life with Abby. Abby changed his world. Vice versa, he also changed Abby’s world. He gave Abby strength to make a decision. The best decision for their life.

Beside of Abby Abernathy and Travis Maddox, there were another characters in this book. They were America, Shepley and Parker. I don’t want to talk about Parker, he was just too boring. But, I like our another love bird, America and Shepley. America was more than best friend that always in Abby’s side, good or bad. And Shepley always like a cold oasis which could make Travis feel tranquil, peace. They were a lovely couple, but sometime i felt pity on them. Every time Travis and Abby had foght, they always involved. Then it made their relationship went up and down. There’s nothing easy if you get close with someone like Abby and Travis. They brought, thunder, storm, and absolutely disaster !.

Jamie McGuire created such easy to love characters which they were real, had flaws and imperfections. Just like ordinary people. I like how she wrote the story, flow with fast pace. I didn’t have time to feel boring at all. And, when I finished read this book, I feel satisfied. The ending is beautiful indeed.

Honestly, I couldn’t move on from Abby and Travis love-but-disaster-story, I want to read their another books, Walking Disaster ( their love story from Travis’s point of view), and A Beautiful Wedding (story of their marriage life). Now, I wish I can buy the original version with cheaper price.
